After showering this morning, I began my morning skincare ritual. Toner. Facial oil. Massage with a Gua Sha stone. Moisturiser with an SPF. Eye cream.
Fear based rituals
It was at the beginning of the Gua Sha stone massage that I realised my skincare ritual was completely fear based. Fear and embarrassment of my double chin – Gua Sha massage. Fear of sun damaged skin – SPF moisturiser. Fear of wrinkles and of looking and becoming older – caffeine-based eye serum.
It was a really interesting energy and thought space to come from and one which I didn’t particularly like. It was completely fear based. Fear about growing older and of not looking good for goodness knows who.
Time to quickly change
Time to change that energy up and smartly so. I believe our thoughts are incredibly powerful in deciding how we perceive and create our reality. The movie – Life is Beautiful is a perfect example of this. A story about how a Jewish father protects his son from the horrors of the concentration camp they have been sent to by using love and humour.
Honoring myself
My skincare ritual became just that. A ritual to honour my amazing skin, face and body. Thanking it for all it has seen and done. Being grateful that I am still here to do these things and experience this wonderful thing called life. I will also be looking at how this fear based mindset has also played out in other aspects of my life – what fills up our home; how I dress; my fear of criticism and judgement. Oh it’s an endless work in progress.
Anger, depression and discord
There seems to be a lot of anger, depression and discord out there which I feel is fear based. Many are afraid and angry that they’re not getting their “fair” share. That someone undeserving is receiving more than them. I think it comes from a space of fear and lack of love and connection. Of protecting one’s patch at all costs. I don’t think this is healthy or sustainable. Coming from a space of fear and anger is exhausting and prevents us from creating the real reality we want and deserve.
Where do your beliefs come from?
Today ask yourself if your actions throughout the day, come from a space of fear or from a place of love. If it is a fear-based question – where does that belief come from? Was it yours to begin with or have you been carrying something around for years that came from your whānau or friends? Do they serve you now for your highest good?
