I know those thighs and I have learnt to love those thighs

Since High School I can remember being embrassed about my thick thighs.

Television coverage

I really enjoyed watching the the Black Ferns play Australia on Saturday night to a sell out Eden Park crowd. The wahine play such a fast paced game which makes for great entertainment and I’m in awe at how fit they must be to play at this speed constantly for 80 minutes.

I have loved the coveraged that Aotearoa television networks gives wahine sport and at the moment rugby.  Rugby is one of those games that is inclusive of so many body types, shapes and sizes. I think this is why it is such a huge game worrldwide.

I smiled to myself

As I watched on Saturday night I saw some of the front row players from both teams and I smiled to myself.  On national television I saw bodies that represented me, as well as many others – tall, short, fast and strong. But most of all I loved seeing the strong thick legs that rubbed together as they walked, that are magnificent and perfect in the front row of a scrum. I know those thighs and I have learnt to love those thighs.

Since High School I can remember being embrassed about my thick thighs. One friend would put her legs together and have about 3 gaps and honestly I’m not sure if I’ve ever had any gaps down there, even when I wasn’t heavy.

The dreaded chaffing

When it’s hot and I want to wear a dress or skirt I would worry about chaffing – it really hurts and can ruin a hot, sunny day. But I now know these thighs and I love these thighs and after 53 years I have learnt how to embrace them and work with them.

Chub rub shorts from Snag Tights

I purchased clothing like bright and colourful chub rub shorts from Snag Tights (snagtights.com.au/) and I wear these under my skirts and dresses, avoiding painful chaffing and the relieance of creams that inevitabily rub off. I also keep an eye out for skorts – skirts with inbuilt boy shorts.

It is about acceptance

It is about the acceptance of who we are and what we are.  Most of us are not in the position to be able to change drastically how we look and nor would I now want too.  We all aren’t meant to be the size 0 or 2 that current models are or be 175cm plus tall. What a boring world that would be if we all looked basically the same.

Love and embrace who you are and what you are.  Focus on your strenghts and what you are able to give and if you have chunky thighs like me – give em a love rub.
